Una historiografía de la arqueología bíblica anglopartante: Tierra Santa y la colonización material de Palestina

Abstract

La presente tesis es una historiografía decolonial de la Arqueología Bíblica angloparlante en Palestina. Si bien la Tierra Santa o la Tierra Prometida han sido un constante en el imaginario judeocristiano no fue sino hasta el siglo XIX que con el desarrollo de la disciplina arqueológica Europa (Francia, Alemania, Inglaterra) y Norteamérica (Estados Unidos y Canadá) comenzaron a buscar la verificación de sus pasados tanto nacionales como religiosos por medio de la materialidad de las antigüedades. La tesis no tiene límites temporales marcados por años, sino por las más escurridizas centurias. Podría decirse que parte de la tesis se enmarca entre los años de 1917 fecha de inicio de la presencia británica en Jerusalén e inicio del colonialismo británico sobre Palestina, hasta 2018, año en el que se publicó la Ley de Patrimonio Cultural Tangible por parte de la Autoridad Palestina para los territorios ocupados. Sin embargo, esta cronología deja de fuera la construcción intelectual previa que sacó a la Tierra Santa del imaginario puramente religioso para convertirlo en parte de la identidad occidental. También el límite del 2018 deja fuera los procesos de patrimonialización realizados por las comunidades desplazadas construidos en contra de un sistema colonial aún presente. Por estas razones abarca aproximadamente de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX hasta la actualidad. Se enfoca principalmente en la producción angloparlante pues esta ha sido fundamental en la construcción del territorio colonial no solo en el imaginario, sino también en su realidad física.

The present thesis is a decolonial historiography of the English speaking Biblical Archaeology in Palestine. Even if the Holy Land and the Promised Land have been a constant in the Judeo-Christian imaginary, it wasn’t until the 19th century that the European (France, Germany, England), and American (United States and Canada) started looking for a material verification of their national and religious pasts through the archaeological antiquities. This thesis does not have clear limits marked by years, but by the most elusive centuries. It could be said that part of the analysis can be framed between the years of 1917, the date of the beginning of the British colonial occupation to 2018, year that The Palestinian Tangible Cultural Heritage Law was published by the Palestinian Authority for the occupied territories. Nevertheless, this chronology leaves out the period of intellectual construction that took the Holy Land out of the purely religious imaginary and transferred it to the Western identity imaginary. The 2018 limit also leaves out of the analysis the process of patrimonialization of the Palestinian displaced communities constructed against the current colonial system. For this reasons this investigation is framed between the second half of the 19th century to the present days. The investigation focuses on the English-speaking production since this has been fundamental for the construction of the colonial territory not only in the imaginary, but also on the physical reality.
